After a good Christmas and a dizzying New Years Eve, we’re happy to release the videos for the Winter Clip Competition.

Sadly, there were only 5 participants, so we have to reconsider whether we want to continue making DoDs-competitions like this or move it to another scene.

With the french super-LAN coming up in february, including our favourite game Day of Defeat Source, we’re planning on representing NORDiQ on this amazing event. Our hopes are to cover all the major happenings on the LAN in general, and cover DODS especially, bringing our own equipment and personnel. At the moment we only have one confirmed editor attending the event, but the hopes are that we will have a couple more on the team.

When the LAN has finished, we will sit on a ton of raw footage, but no demos from the actual games played. We therefore hope you guys send us good takedowns, and we are obviously especially interested in demos from the semi finals and finals, preferrably ticked with the best takedowns, important moments and amazing vent recordings. If there will be official coverage, we could also include this in the movie.

For us, this included making a brand new forum, since the old one was impossible to understand, even for the one making it. We encourage everyone to sign up to the forum, bring in ideas on what we should include on the forum and just leave a comment if it’s something you’re interested in. We also picked up several amazing editors who are now on a trial run for NORDiQ. These editors are:

- Joseph “jo3y” D. – a brit who has shown an exceptional progress over his last movies, including the Perplexed series and the MMF#2-winning Phantom featuring phn, showing off both 3D skill, creativity and a general artistic eye when picking themes for movies. He won our Moviemakings Finest Competition, which goes to show that he has already impressed us a lot.

Kelvin “V1NNY” H. – It took one movie to win over our hearts, namely FLASHBACK, featuring players Una and Nightmare. Incredible choice of colours mixed with overall astounding editing and a fitting soundtrack made us open our eyes for this guy.

Erik “calipzo” Z. – We all knew that calipzo possessed editing capabilities which could qualify for being in NORDiQ. His MMF#2-entry, INCANTARE, was an up beat, colourful, incredibly synced movie with great frags and an amazing 3D ending, really made us follow this guy more, and the clips and movies he made afterwards made us decide to give him a go. He’s currently working on a real life movie, where his skills are put to the test.

Gintautas “Beerpower” P. – With an impressive collection of small clips and intros, some of us kept an eye on Beerpower, and with the capabilities portraited in “Masterbrain” and “IMMENSE” we decided that this guy could prove to be an interesting addition to our team.

Jorge “Lemming” C. – A guy who was close with the very early NORDiQ returned and wanted to have a go with the guys again. We’re eagerly awaiting him to prove to us that he can fit back into this club of gents.

We are also very excited with our upcoming movies, which we assure will be groundbreaking on several areas. These are currently being produced by tarik, vinny and alfie. We are possibly also seeing the return of an old king.

NORDiQ are proud to announce the results of the NORDiQ MMF#2 Competition. The NORDiQ moviemakers judged each movie individually and the results were very close, with only 2 points between the winner and runner-up!

Alfie’s Review:

“It was consistently good editing from jo3y, nothing ground breaking but nothing that was poorly done. There is some small details he can improve on, such as seeing the edge of the blur mask. But overall it didn’t matter, it was well synced, cut and entertaining. Theres nothing new and innovative, but the basics were top notch. He didn’t butcher the frags but still managed to sync it all the way through, which can be very difficult at times. The style he chose seemed very light hearted and fun, you don’t normally see that from gaming movies these days and it made it really enjoyable. One of the primary reasons why this movie finished 1st, which is something all the judges agreed upon, was the fact that the movie was very subtle edited, and after having watched it you’re left with a feeling that you love the movie, without knowing why. That was a big plus from all judges. The style being so different from the norm really made this the movie  what it is.

Music wise, we agreed that you quickly become fed up with hearing the same rock and heavy metal songs, and listening to something different and lighter was pleasant on the ears. The music choice was from a variety of genres and had great syncing opportunities that jo3y took advantage of, hitting most of the big beats. Music is always a matter of opinion but this was perfect in our opinion. The clean, bright colours and amazing quality were something we really enjoyed aswell. There was no real creative visual effects, but the little touches like “cool story bro”, “techno viking” and vent recordings are something people will remember.”

“Once again a very well edited movie from nazz. Amazing 3D work and motion tracking. naZzs most certainly shows that he is confident with a lot of different approaches in editing techniques, which without a doubt shows in this movie. We’ve seen this song in other movies before, so it’s not completely new. It’s distorted on purpose at times to sync with the movie, which works well here. It is also a soundtrack which allows for easy syncing. Always when we see a nazz movie there are new effects and techniques used, which I personally thinks makes nazz some sort of a pioneer in many aspects of editing. This movie is no exception, and it’s a lot of groundbreaking effects. We know however, that nazz has his own, unique style, and this is just like it.”

Primal’s Review:

“The editing is pretty simple and clean, with good sync and slowmo to highlight special scenes. Jitz pulls this off well imo. Nothing very special editing-wise though. However, this is without a doubt one of the best movies style-wise. The music fits very well with the general theme and the colours looks incredibly good. The effect when the scene had finished with a 3 or 4-man takedown and the walls are coloured in blood made us especially enjoy this movie’s visuals. It’s not intended to be a fast paced, hyper-energetic movie with a lot of flashing and effects. It relies solely on the colours and music to give the movie its character and it’s also admirable to see someone trying out something like this. Huge plus for innovation.

It also boasts one of the more original soundtracks which actually fits well with the movie. Had the movie been any longer it would become boring, but I feel jitz manages to finish the movie in time before it gets near anything close to boring. Style is another big plus on both creativity and innovation. If there was any credit to be given for boldness, jitz would get them. I think the movie is creative enough to finish third, mainly because it’s something you rarely see in fragmovies these days. Editing is basic, but theme, style and music weighs up for that.”

Like most of you probably have noticed the links and movies for MMF#2 have been released and are now being reviewed by the judges. These 4 months have been exciting for many of us, but there was also some disappointment when it turned out that only 7 entries were uploaded for the competition. We want feedback from the community as to why no one else cared to enter. Was it because of the prizes? Is it because it’s too much effort to make a movie? Would there be more entries in a clip-competition?

However, the movies we have received are of great quality and we thank each editor for taking time to make these fantastic pieces of work. These movies can be streamed HD at NORDiQ youtube or dodstv. Here’s a statement from primal concerning the competition:

“Seeing how this competition has lasted 4 months, I must say I’m surprised no more than 7 contestants entered. I will admit that the prizes aren’t much to speak of, and the thought was always to increase the quality of the prizes if the competition proved to be successful. In some senses it has, because the quality of most of the videos are great, but the lack of entries makes any thought of adding more prizes discouraging. I will admit however, that I’m very pleased with the movies we have recieved, which goes to show that the small dods community have some very talented editors.”
